Easter: Security and traffic operations intensified at the Coast

Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno has given assurance to both domestic and international tourists that heightened security will be maintained throughout the festivities.
A multi-agency security team has been deployed across the Coast region to bolster safety measures during the Easter holiday season.
Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno has given assurance to both domestic and international tourists that heightened security will be maintained throughout the festivities.
"Being a popular tourism destination, I want to assure both local and international visitors to come and enjoy their holidays on our beautiful beaches," Nuno stressed at the Regional Police Headquarters in Mombasa.
"We have an operation order in place with security teams strategically positioned across the entire region to ward off criminals and as well prevent accidents."
He went on to say that the majority of accidents reported in the region stem from drunk driving, fatigue, and careless driving.
"My message to all travelers is simple—make sure your driver is responsible. We will not allow road crashes to disrupt our region,” he warned.
The Regional Police Commander issued a stern warning to criminal gangs that have recently reemerged in Mombasa and Kwale counties, saying law enforcement will take firm action against them.
He further cautioned parents that those whose underage children are caught carrying weapons like machetes or clubs will face charges of negligence.
"If the individual is over 18, parents will be charged with harboring criminals. Whether the child is under or over 18, we will hold parents accountable. It’s time they take their parental duties seriously," he emphasized.
He also advised beachgoers to clear the shores by 6 pm for their own safety.
Mombasa County Commissioner Mohammed Noor echoed the security assurance, saying residents and tourists can expect heightened vigilance throughout the holiday.
He noted that the multi-agency taskforce includes officers from the police service, National Government Administrative Officers, and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), among others.
"We are fully prepared to respond to any incidents during the Easter holiday," Noor affirmed.
NTSA Chairperson Khatib Mwashetani added that their primary focus will be on monitoring major exit routes, including Mombasa–Nairobi, Mombasa–Kilifi, Mombasa–Lamu, and Mombasa–Lungalunga.
Mwashetani called on drivers to remain vigilant, refrain from driving under the influence, and comply with all traffic laws, including ensuring their vehicles are fitted with working speed governors.
"We’ll be launching a major crackdown, and anyone found violating the law or putting lives at risk will be dealt with accordingly," he cautioned.
